After Activision Takeover: Sony's reaction to Microsoft

That was possibly the greatest surprise of the last days: Microsoft presses and wants to take over the top publisher Activision Blizzard. And it looks hard after that the deal in the near future is already in sack and bags. Now console competitor Sony has spoken word and calls for exactly one thing from Microsoft.

Update from 21 January 2022:

In a conversation with the Wall Street Journal, there is a responsible person of Sony for Activision acquisition.

We expect Microsoft to consider the contractual arrangements and will continue to ensure that Activision games are offered across platform. (Source: Wall Street Journal)

Which concrete contractual arrangements are that, the person does not call. But it is to be assumed that Games like Call of Duty are meant, who in recent years with more or former content had their home on Sony's consoles. However, it would be interesting to know what happens if these contracts run and whether certain exit clauses occur.

Anyway, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has already expressed itself about Twitter to the topic. He promises to comply with all existing agreements .

Sony Original message from 18 January 2022:

After Bethesda: Xbox completes next mega-deal

After the game company Activision Blizzard has some hard months behind, here may be the rescue. Microsoft intends to swallow the Publisher behind Game Marks such as Call of Duty, Overwatch, Diablo or World of Warcraft for whopping 70 billion US dollars . The deal is not yet in dry towels, but the official message from Xbox boss Phil Spencer suggests that it is soon decided thing. (Source: Microsoft)

Spencer writes that until the completion of this transaction Activision Blizzard and Microsoft Gaming will operate independently, but as soon as the deal goes over the stage, Activision Blizzard becomes part of the Xbox Game Studios and thus under the guidance of the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, work. The acquisition of Bethesda took a few months after that.

Activision already reported on Twitter to celebrate the leap into the Xbox universe.

In an earlier report from Microsoft, it was confirmed that the current head of Activision Blizzard Bobby Kotick continues to act as CEO for the gaming company. (Source: Microsoft) Whether this is actually the case will show the next few weeks and months. After all, the various scandals of the company Kotick is not innocent.

What the takeover means for you

If the 70 billion deal is safe, you can probably expect future Activision games first only to Xbox and PC . Whether that already affects the next Call of Duty will remain to be seen. In the past, PlayStation users usually get more or earlier content for the COD series. And games like Crash Bandicoot or Spyro, which are old Playstation brands and now are with Activision, may possibly make Xbox players happy in the future.
