Phil Spencer talks about returning Blizzard's RTS games

Phil As is already known, Blizzard's real-time strategy games have been somewhat abandoned, among them, we clearly have the Star Craft franchise and also to Warcraft . Given this, many have thought if they could return when bought by Microsoft , and apparently, the CEO of Xbox has something to say about it.

Talking to Wired , he asked Phil Spencer if he would like to relive the science fiction strategy series in space, once the acquisition proposed by Microsoft of of of Activision Blizzard . Commenting that it would be interesting, especially for what these franchises that are a legend in the industry entail.

Here is your statement:

The first thing I would say is that I am not allowed to make any decision about what happens in Blizzard, Activision or King. So all this is just talking and thinking about what the opportunity is, but you are right.

Not only Star craft, but Warcraft, when you think about the inheritance of the real-time strategy games that we are talking about here, specifically Blizzard. And I don't have any concrete plan today because I really can't enter and work with teams.

But Star craft was a fundamental moment in the games, right? From the perspective of electronic sports, from the perspective of the RTS console and only from the perspective of the narration of RTS stories in the genre. And I am excited to be able to sit with the Activision and Blizzard and King teams to talk about the previous catalog and the opportunities we could have.

In the end he summed up:

So I will avoid the question apart from saying that it is not something I can actively work at this time. But the idea of being able to think about what could happen to those franchises is very exciting for me, like someone who spent many hours playing those games.

In short, he would like to do things with these franchises, but for now it is something soon to talk about the subject. It is estimated that the purchase finishes the treatment at the beginning of 2023.

Editor's note: The Star craft saga has been missing or rather, unattended for a long time. So it is a good opportunity to have a triumphal return, especially to the Game Pass platform on PC.
